About School

The University of the West of England (UWE) is a public research university, located in and around Bristol, England, UK. With more than 30,000 students and 3,000 staff, it is the largest providers of higher education in the South West of England. Students studying at Bristol come from all parts of the UK, as well as from more than 140 different countries around the world, creating a diverse and exciting environment in which to study.

The University has more than 600 courses from undergraduate, postgraduate, professional courses and short courses, with a diverse range of subjects in the fields of arts, creative industries, medicine economics, science, business, law and environmental technology.

Campus

Although UWE Bristol is a modern and thriving university, its educational roots date back to the 16th Century. The university has a history built on partnerships and collaborations dating back to 1595, and obtained the university status since 1992. Over the years, UWE Bristol has continued this tradition in order to grow and transform itself to meet the demands of modern day students and higher education teaching.

The University spreads over three campuses, all just a short bus ride from one another, each site offers something unique. Over the last five years, UWE have invested £300 million into our state-of-the-art facilities. Frenchay campus

This is the biggest campus, just four miles north of the city centre (15 minutes by Metrobus). The largest proportion of courses are taught here, with most of the new purpose-built facilities, such as Students Union, 24/7 Library, sports facilities, shops and numerous cafes, bars and restaurants.

City Campus

City campus is for the creative and cultural industry courses, with access to the award-winning, industry-standard facilities from tranquil harbourside studios, campus hub, Bower Ashton...

Glenside campus

Glenside is home to allied health, nursing and midwifery students. Here, you’ll find the latest specialist facilities, including simulation suites to test your skills, and one of the UK's biggest specialist

healthcare libraries. It’s all set in beautiful grounds in the Fishponds area of the city, three miles northeast of the centre.

Award and medal

+ UWE has been awarded Gold in the Government’s 2018 Teaching Excellence and Student Outcomes Framework, TEF.

+ UWE ranked 24th out of 121 UK institutions in the Guardian League Table 2023. The University also performed strongly in the guide’s subject level rankings, with 10 subject areas among the top 10 nationally. These were Interior Design (2nd), Animation & Game Design (2nd), Product Design (6th), Construction, Surveying & Planning (6th), Film Production and Photography (6th), Architecture (7th), Paramedic Science (7th), Aerospace Engineering (7th), Philosophy (7th) and Creative Writing (9th).
